Evidence-based decision-making part of new competency framework for UK civil servants

Minister for the UK Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, launched a new competency framework for the Civil Service. From April, all civil servants will have to perform to a unified set of standards. Under the competency of ‘Making Effective Decisions’, the new framework requires all staff to analyse and use evidence to evaluate options before arriving at well reasoned justifiable decisions. At senior levels, leaders are required to create evidence based strategies, evaluating options, impacts, risks and solutions.
