Dr Chris Brown of the London Centre for Leadership in Learning will speak on 7 November 2012 about why there have not been greater instances of evidence-informed policymaking in education. Propositions on the theme include:

  • the opposing positions held by researchers and policymakers in relation to understanding the social world;
  • the differentials in discursive power between policymakers and researchers with regards to telling the research/policy story;
  • the requirement for policymakers to be experts in using evidence rather than rely on the provision of 'what works' type outputs;
  • the need for policymakers and researchers to embrace their roles as effective audiences and storytellers for the research message;
  • and the need for policymakers to constantly rather than sporadically engage with research.

The aim will be to stimulate discussion and reflective thinking around these pointers as well as to understand ways in which they might be addressed. This seminar will be held at the Institute of Education, University of London. For more information and to book your place, please click below:
