The Dutch Programme Council for Educational Research (PROO), Netherlands<http://www.eippee.eu/cms/Default.aspx?tabid=3248> has recently been incorporated into the National Task Force on Educational Research (Dutch acronym: NRO). This task Force has been established to reduce the gap between scientific research and educational practice. The NRO will counteract the fragmentation of resources for educational research and will provide a coherent long-term programme for scientific research (see http://www.nwo.nl/en/about-nwo/organisation/nwo-divisions/nro for more information).
The NRO will realise the scientific research programming on the basis of questions from educational practice, educational policy and science. It will encourage teachers, school managers, school boards and policy makers to make greater and more frequent use of research results. Therefore these parties will also be involved in the realisation of the programmes, the assessment of research projects and the realisation of the research.
NRO will focus on two types of activity:
- Developing and realising coherent research programmes in the area of education (from before school care and school education through to university);
- Connecting research with educational practice.
The NRO will be headed by a board and further consist of three programme councils: one for fundamental research (the PROO), one for policy-oriented research and one for practice-oriented research. NRO is also developing research programmes that will intersect with or overarch these three types of research. The current Dutch Programme Council for Educational Research (PROO) and the Policy-Oriented Research Primary Education (BOPO) that previously fell under the responsibility of NWO will be transferred to NRO.
